Bodywork for emotional balance Kinesiology is a therapy which has relevance for us all, child and adult alike. It is particularly suitable when there is an emotional context to a physical ailment. The body has a remarkable capacity to give feedback about what stresses are held within the tissues and organ systems.
Therapeutic steps In revealing the information through monitoring muscle responses from all over the body, I can piece together the connected aspects of a specific injury or upset. The body will also indicate what it needs to bring itself back into balance, usually in a series of therapeutic steps with an emotion revealed at each step. Kinesiology can be described as using techniques gleaned from the fusion of western remedial bodywork therapies, with Chinese meridian and other ancient healing techniques.
Please note that kinesiology does not involve spinal manipulation. There are numerous ways to experience kinesiology, both as a practitioner and as a client. Each session is guided by what the person needs at that time and there are hundreds of balances and techniques to call upon. We shall talk about the associated emotions, what they mean for you and how you can take this understanding forward for a more balanced way of living.
Style of kinesiology I trained in the 3 year PKP (Professional Kinesiology Practice) course in Sydney, a city where there is an inspirational openness about health management coming from both allopathic and complementary health practitioners. PKP was a style of kinesiology originally developed by the medical doctor Dr Bruce Dewe and has been taught internationally since the 1990s. Dr Dewe describes his PKP method as working in another dimension:-
“We are working with subtle body energies that are not part of the medical model… Our interest is in better health, wholeness, and high level wellness (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual), how to obtain and maintain them by becoming more aware of our body and its special needs”. [The ICPKP Practitioner Database, 1999-2000]
At Nature Care College I was fortunate to have also studied with oriental medicine practitioners and deepened my understanding of the Five Element Theory which underpins the eastern influence within kinesiology. If you want to understand why you go through patterns of ill health or struggle to cope with the stresses of a fast-paced modern lifestyle, kinesiology gives you the insight and the tools to go forward with a calmer spirit.
